Community

Connecting with people in the community is part of the culture at Standard, and we are always looking for new ways to show that.

Our work stretches from Memphis to North Mississippi to McNairy County, and our employees live in Shelby, Fayette, Marshall, Panola, Desoto, McNairy, and Tipton Counties. Our communities are where we live, work, and play, and we’ve been a part of these communities for sixty years now. Just as we take pride in our work, we take pride in having a positive impact on the people and places our work touches.

Through donations of materials, time and money, Standard has reached out to support state and local organizations. We’ve donated pea gravel to a Desoto County School and sand to Memphis in May and Southern Reigns Center for Equine Therapy. Monetary donations have gone to support everything from local events like the Germantown Charity Horse Show, to local organizations including youth baseball teams, schools, colleges and churches.

Some of the organizations & events we have supported:

  • Barret’s Chapel Elementary School
  • Desoto County School
  • Germantown Charity Horse Show
  • Memphis in May
  • Southern Reigns Center for Equine Therapy
  • Salvation Army Women’s Shelter

Environment

We continue to strive for ways to be environmentally responsible in all facets of what we do.

Standard strives to have a positive impact on the environment. We recycle asphalt and concrete from existing roads, sidewalks and buildings for use in new projects. Our warm mix technology keeps temperatures down when producing asphalt mixes at our plants and on jobs, which is safer for workers and the environment. For our sand and gravel pits, we replant vegetation in digging areas and recycle water onsite for the washing process. Former sites that have been reclaimed include Life Time Fitness at Houston Levee and the Collierville City Hall park.

In 2013, our shop installed solar panels for energy efficiency, and we are currently incorporating Leadership in Energy and and Environmental Design (LEED) practices into our work.
